Churn impact calculator
Churn is not a percentage, it is a monthly bill. This turns your rate into euros lost per month, the MRR you will have in a year, and the ceiling your current new-business rate can never grow past.

The number
Every churn rate has a ceiling built into it
New MRR ÷ churn rate is the MRR your business converges on and cannot pass without changing one of the two. At €1,800 of new MRR and 3.5% churn that ceiling is about €51,000 — no amount of time gets you past it, only lower churn or more new business.
MRR ceiling = new MRR per month ÷ monthly churn rate
Getting it right
- Measure churn against the customers you started the month with, not the ones you ended it with.
- Revenue churn and customer churn differ whenever your plans do — a downgrade is revenue churn only.
- Halving churn is usually cheaper than doubling new business, and it moves the ceiling twice as far.

Questions
Churn impact calculator — What people ask about it
Is 3% monthly churn bad?
It means the average customer stays 33 months and you replace your entire base every three years before growing at all. For SMB software it is around average; for anything selling to larger companies it is high.
Why does my MRR grow even though churn is high?
Because churn is a percentage of a base that is still small. As the base grows, the same rate removes more euros every month — which is why fast-growing companies discover their churn problem eighteen months late.
